The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) has announced that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has approved 29 new Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes specifically for organic products.

These new organic HTS codes have officially taken effect as of Wednesday, July 1, 2026. All businesses exporting organic products to the United States must comply with the following regulations:

1. New Import Filing Requirements

Beginning on the effective date, U.S. organic importers filing entries with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) must use the new corresponding 10-digit HTS codes. Additionally, each entry must be accompanied by a valid NOP Import Certificate (NOP-IC) number.

2. NOP Import Certificate (NOP-IC) Transition Guidelines

•   New Certificates:All NOP-ICs issued by our organization on or after July 1, 2026, will fully adopt and utilize the new HTS codes.
• Validity of Existing Certificates: NOP-ICs issued before July 1, 2026, using the HTS codes that were in effect at the time of issuance, remain legally valid and may still be submitted for CBP entry clearance.
• No Replacement Required: Replacement NOP-ICs are not required solely because the HTS codes changed on July 1, 2026.

3. Friendly Reminder

Please contact your U.S. importers, customs brokers, or logistics teams as soon as possible to confirm and ensure the use of the correct 10-digit HTS codes, avoiding any 

unnecessary cargo delays at U.S. Customs.
